Congress releases list of four candidates for Punjab
Former Deputy chief minister of Punjab Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa would contest from Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat as the party’s nominee.
As the two-day winter session of the Vidhan Sabha approaches, Opposition parties are gearing up to challenge the ruling AAP on various fronts such as the state’s declining fiscal health, agrarian issues, illegal mining, and the nascent farmers’ agitation. In response, the ruling party is preparing to address these concerns by shifting the focus to the issue of “corruption” on the House floor.
Opposition MLAs are set to criticize the ruling party for its substantial market borrowings used for day-to-day operations. This criticism stems from recent remarks by Governor Banwarilal Purohit in a letter, questioning the fiscal prudence of the ruling party. With the government accumulating Rs 20,457.93 crore in the first seven months of the current year and Rs 30,899.81 crore in the preceding year, the AAP government’s total loans during its 21-month tenure amount to Rs 51,357 crore.
Additionally, the Opposition plans to highlight alleged illegal mining activities in the state, accusing the government of supporting those engaged in such activities while questioning the credibility of the AAP’s claims regarding revenue from mining operations before assuming power.

On the other hand, the ruling party intends to showcase its accomplishments in upgrading school and health infrastructure, emphasizing the allocation of higher budgets to sectors such as smart schools and Aam Aadmi Party clinics. They aim to highlight their consistent fulfillment of commitments and meeting various liabilities.
